LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif., April 18, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Today, a new non-denominational ministry announces its spiritual outreach to churches across California. Listen Ministries serves as an outlet for both the churched and the un-churched alike who are looking for someone to pray for them. Many congregations have prayer teams that are only praying for their own members, and a small number of them at that. A number of people outside the church may need prayer, but have no idea where to start. Listen Ministries exists to help connect those in need of prayer with the people who are able to intercede on their behalf.
"Churches don't often think of prayer as an evangelistic tool. They may be comfortable praying inside their congregations, but become uncomfortable at the thought of asking others if they can pray for them," said the group's co-founder Warren Becoat. "It is the hope of this ministry that we provide a new understanding of prayer as an evangelistic outreach. There are those out there who are desperate for prayer and it is our hope that they will come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."
Ministry members work alongside California Christian churches and businesses to distribute the Listen Ministries prayer contact card, a tool that provides people with a toll-free phone number and website address to submit prayer requests.
"Prayer is an awesome gift that lets us talk freely with the God of the universe. It is our only human supernatural power," said Bo Kelleher, one of Listen's founders. "We want people everywhere to know that God would like to hear from them through prayer. We're here to help with that and to amplify their prayers."
Listen is actively recruiting churches to become partners in this rapidly growing ministry. Prayer requests have been coming in from the United States, Europe and Africa.
