Integra Foundation Awards Two Grants to Neuroscience Nursing Foundation

PLAINSBORO, N.J., April 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Integra Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Integra LifeSciences Corporation, has awarded two grants to the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation (NNF): 1) $25,000 grant in support of three key programs -- Travel Grants, CNRN Recertification, and NNF Research; and 2) $20,000 in support of an NNF Research Demonstration Project, which will explore the management of patients with secondary head injury using multimodality monitoring and protocols to drive patient care. This pilot project will also demonstrate collaborative research among three leading hospitals in the USA.

"This is the Integra Foundation's third year supporting the NNF and we are delighted to be able to continue to partner with them on these very worthy programs," said Gianna Sabella, Executive Director of the Integra Foundation.

Neuroscience nursing is a unique area within the nursing discipline, specializing in the care of individuals across the lifespan who are affected by nervous system dysfunction such as stroke, brain and spinal cord tumors and trauma, back pain, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative disorders. Founded in 1993, NNF was established to promote professional growth and research within the field to advance the quality of care for people affected by these disorders, to educate the general public, and to promote a better understanding of neuroscience issues within the medical and lay communities.

"We are grateful to the Integra Foundation for its ongoing support of our programs. As the only foundation dedicated to development of neuroscience nursing research and education, we provide unique support that has proved invaluable to the advancement of our specialty's science and to individual neuroscience nurses," said Tess Sierzant, Chair of the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation. "It is clear our organizations have complementary visions for optimal care of the patient impacted by neurological trauma and illness."

The Integra Foundation is dedicated to advancing innovative medical and healthcare research and education, primarily in the areas of neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery, that lead to improved outcome and quality of life for patients and their communities. It is funded by Integra LifeSciences Corporation, a leader in developing and marketing high quality surgical instruments, as well as innovative devices and bio-products, for use in neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery and soft tissue repair.
