Integra Foundation Awards Grants to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons


PLAINSBORO, N.J., April 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Integra Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Integra LifeSciences Corporation, has awarded two grants to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). They include a $25,000 grant in support of nurse registration fees, to enable neuroscience nurses to attend the upcoming AANS Annual Meeting, April 22-27, 2006, in San Francisco; and a $2,000 grant in support of the Neurosurgical Research and Education Foundation.

"We are delighted to continue our support of the educational efforts of the AANS," said Gianna Sabella, Executive Director of the Integra Foundation.

Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the AANS is a scientific and educational association with more than 6,500 members worldwide. The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical care to patients. All active members of the AANS are certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Neurosurgery) of Canada or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, AC. Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders that affect the entire nervous system including the spinal column, spinal cord, brain and peripheral nerves.

The Integra Foundation is dedicated to advancing innovative medical and healthcare research and education, primarily in the areas of neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery, that lead to improved outcome and quality of life for patients and their communities.
