Growing Up during the Great Depression and WWII

MADISON, Wisc., May 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- With its many innovations in technology, economics, society and politics, the 2OTh Century marks the significant change in the way people lived their lives. It was also a period of great human struggle highlighted by many events such as war, economic downturns, and social revolutions, all of which left a tremendous impact on every aspect of life in almost every society. In his quest to educate readers about what life really was like during the Great Depression and World War II, author Willard F. Mueller presents an astonishing journal of his life and the many lessons of the past with his compelling new book "My Growing-Up Years: In The Great Depression and World War II."

"My Growing-Up Years" describes with astonishing detail the author's experiences growing up during the Great Depression and World War II that took him from a farm in Minnesota to small-town Wisconsin and, finally, to America's war in the Pacific in World War II. While stationed in the Marshall Islands, Mueller was among the survivors of one of the most horrific bombing raids of the Pacific War, killing more Marines and sailors than those killed in the battle to capture the island.

Readers will learn many interesting details about the author's early life such as his family's struggle to survive, the death of his youngest brother, the first time he took communion, the first time he became interested in girls, exposure to segregation and racism, the day he left school for the Navy, and so much more. Aside from these, readers will also realize the impact the Great Depression and World War II placed on people's lives. Last but not least, the book contains graphic depiction of the horrors of WWII which demonstrates that the decision to go to war is undoubtedly the most important and terrible decision leaders can make.

Filled with compelling detail, humor, memories, family and friends, "My Growing-Up Years" brings to life the vanished past of the Depression years as well as some of the most harrowing moments of American history. The years of growing up depict the fault line between youth and manhood, and at the same time it signifies the fighting spirit within. This book is a compelling reference for readers interested in experiencing history first-hand and even to those who never grew up in the Great Depression and WWII. "My Growing-Up Years: In The Great Depression and World War II" is now available for your reading pleasures online at Xlibris.com and at major bookstores and libraries nationwide!
