TASER Device Brings Auto Thief Into Custody After Police Chase

WASHINGTON, May 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from Bend, Oregon's KTVZ News Channel 21, 20-year-old Owen Clark of LaPine was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after almost colliding head-on into a police car and eluding officers in his vehicle and on foot. Police Sgt. Kurt Koester said that Clark was headed southbound on Southeast 15th Street near Wilson Avenue around 4:20 p.m. when his car crossed the center line, just missing an oncoming police vehicle. Clark then eluded police before turning down a dead-end street and taking off on foot. Police were able to catch up to Clark and use a TASER(R) device to subdue him.

According to Koester, "They (TASER devices) have been very useful in successfully taking suspects into custody and preventing injuries to suspects and officers."

Clark was taken to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend for evaluation and overnight observation due to high levels of drugs in his system. An investigation determined that Clark was a suspect in a number of auto thefts over the weekend and faces charges ranging from attempt to elude police to five counts of third-degree theft.
