Maternity Keepsake with Medical Benefits

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- With the company's slogan, "You make the Babies. We make the Jewelry," Designer Daniela Skrein opened Tali & Co's cyber space doors, introducing Talitag, an exclusively designed pendant made for pregnant women. The pendant can be individually engraved with a mother's proclamation of her pregnancy, a wish for the baby or vital medical information such as blood type, a rare allergy or phone number. Talitag offers expecting women maternity identification, a sense of security during pregnancy and introduces the idea of a maternity heirloom.

Each Pendant is hand casted and hand polished. Its noble, flat pebble stone shape reflects Skrein's sculptural interpretation of maternity. When her customer, mostly the proud expecting Dad-To-Be, orders a Talitag for their Oh-So-Pregnant-Spouse he can choose to engrave anything from "Lovingly Welcoming a Baby Boy" to "Knocked Up." Baby Shower Gift Seekers can use their free 75 characters to list medical histories, emergency phone numbers or a condition along with the due date. In this case the Talitag acts like medical alert jewelry for pregnant women.

Dr. Lurdes Tadalan in Punta Gorda, Florida, gives Maternity Medical Jewelry two thumbs up. "About 4% of all pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. If these women miss meals, forget to exercise, or can't keep insulin levels in balance, they can faint more often then other pregnant women. Carrying medical identification with them at all times is therefore highly recommended."

The idea for this product stems from Skrein's real-life experience. Her mother accompanied her father on a trip to New York while seven months pregnant. During their stay, she fainted, which resulted in her husband constructing a pendant made of paper and fastened with string. On the paper, he wrote both of their names and the name of the hotel where they stayed in case of another emergency. Tucked underneath her sweater, her mother faithfully wore this paper necklace throughout the remainder of her pregnancy. Skrein says, "This story always comes up when we are together. If it happened to my mother, I thought, it can happen to anyone."

When asked how she measures success of this innovative concept, she boasts not a number of dollar sales. "I will feel a sense of success and accomplishment when Talitag serves the purpose of medic alert and maybe saves a life or two." To satisfy her philanthropic inclination, Skrein donates 3% of all Sales to the Partnership for Women and Families from day one, the same Organization that fought for the Right to Paternity Leave and Pay which were introduced in April 2003.

In November 2005 Skrein founded Tali & Co and launched Talitag.com. While Fine Art and Design consumed the bulk of Skrein's professional life, she has always had the urge to answer to an entrepreneurial calling.
