TASER System Used to End Inmate Attack on Officer

According to news reports from the UK's BBC News, a 22-year-old female inmate from Low Newton Prison was being treated for possible, self-inflicted wounds to her thigh and groin at Durham University Hospital last Tuesday morning when she suddenly grabbed a pair of scissors, held them to the throat of Pc Clair Reed, and demanded drugs.

Pc David Morgan asked hospital staff to supply him with some tablets, and as the inmate reached for them, used his TASER(r) device to subdue the woman.

The inmate was immobilized and later returned to the prison.
