GE Feels Good: New Velvesil Plus Emulsifiable Silicone Gel Heightens Sensory Performance of Personal Care Products

Velvesil Plus Gel Can Also Help Reduce Manufacturing Time and Expense

WILTON, Conn., May 10, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- GE - Advanced Materials, Silicones today announced the introduction of patented Velvesil(tm) Plus emulsifiable silicone gel, an easy-to-process advanced material that helps offer consumers better sensory performance in their skin and hair care products. Velvesil Plus gel is an excellent candidate for use in a wide range of personal care products, including skin lotions and creams, sun care products, color cosmetics, shower gels, facial cleansers, hair conditioners and styling aids.

The newest in GE - Silicones proprietary Velvesil crosspolymer gel technology, Velvesil Plus gel blends easily with other ingredients used in the formulation of skin and hair care products to form an emulsion. Since Velvesil Plus gel is easy to process and can be used at room temperature, it may help reduce manufacturing costs. Velvesil Plus gel also helps enable the use of lower cost materials, without sacrificing product quality. For example, Velvesil Plus emulsifiable silicone gel helps overcome the manufacturing challenges of using lower-cost hydrophilic pigments because Velvesil Plus gel quickly disperses the hydrophilic pigment into a smooth, spreadable mixture.

"Velvesil Plus gel offers a combination of manufacturability and end-user product performance benefits that help enable personal care companies to cost-effectively meet consumer demand for high quality skin and hair care products," said Beatriz Blanco, global marketing manager, Personal Care. "Velvesil Plus gel exemplifies the commitment we have made to develop innovative materials that serve the long-term strategic interests of our customers."

Velvesil Plus emulsifiable gel is composed of a silicone crosspolymer gel and a silicone polyethylene/polypropylene oxide copolymer. Velvesil Plus gel is easily processed, is highly compatible with organic materials and provides emulsification benefits. Formulations containing Velvesil Plus emulsifiable silicone gel range from low viscosity, sprayable emulsions to highly structured anhydrous gels.
