Felon Back in Custody After Nine-Hour Standoff

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Sacramento Bee, a felon who had barricaded himself inside his Oak Park home Saturday evening was brought into police custody early Sunday morning after a nine-hour armed standoff with officers. Neighbors contacted police around 6:30 p.m. Saturday after hearing gunshots from the home of 55-year-old Robert McDonald, said police Lt. Vigil Brown. A special weapons and tactics team responded to the scene, closing down the 3100 block of 42nd Avenue and attempting to negotiate with McDonald throughout the night.

When negotiations failed, police fired tear gas into the home around 3 a.m. on Sunday. McDonald continued to act combative when he emerged from the home, forcing officers to subdue him with rubber bullets and a TASER device.

McDonald is being held without bail at Sacramento County jail.
