Nomadix Announces Seamless Access for Wi-Fi -- Cellular Roaming

Company Working to Enhance Handoffs Between 3G and Wi-Fi Networks

NEWBURY PARK, Calif., May 17, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nomadix, Inc. (www.Nomadix.com), the leading supplier of intelligent network devices and interconnect services for guest access, digital cities, and carrier HotSpots, today announced a demonstration of Seamless Access with Intel at CTIA 2006 and, more recently, at the 2006 Spring Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, China. This effort marks Nomadix' official entry into the fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) arena, and is available today on their public access gateways.

Nomadix and Intel have been cooperating in industry groups over the last two years to enable Seamless Access roaming at public HotSpots. "Seamless Access for public access Wi-Fi networks, including interworking with other networks such as GSM SIM-based network roaming, is an important step forward for the industry," said Dan Dahle, senior strategic architect of Intel. "Nomadix has developed Seamless Access technology in their products for the purpose of eliminating connection hurdles, increasing security, enabling compelling services, and simplifying the billing process for both users and operators. We look forward to continuing to work with Nomadix and others in the industry to stimulate deployment of Seamless Access for Wi-Fi as coverage expands in Digital Cities and other HotSpots."

The Nomadix Service Engine (NSE) is a Wi-Fi gateway that resides in venue, carrier, municipality, or service provider infrastructure to enable connectivity in public access environments. Embedded on the NSE itself, Nomadix' patented gateway software immediately and invisibly adapts to a computer's settings to enable a secure, easy-to-use connection. In addition, NSE software presents a unique service creation environment, and supports a variety of revenue-generating and monetization mechanisms for operators. The NSE also supports new European Telecoms Standards Institute (ETSI) standards for Seamless Access, which augment Wi-Fi Alliance certification and comply with 3GPP and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards. Since its inception, Nomadix has shipped 26,000 NSE-enabled units to customers in over 60 countries.

With Nomadix Interconnect Services (NIS) Intelligent Roaming application, service providers can sign lateral agreements whereby their users can roam to any NSE global point of presence. In its cooperation with Intel, Nomadix is demonstrating how the NSE can eliminate multiple passwords, accounts, and bills as users roam between multiple 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

"Nomadix already has the capability to provide Intelligent Roaming between NSE points of presence, so fixed-mobile convergence is a logical progression," said Balaji Pitchaikani, CTO of Nomadix. "Nomadix was one of the earliest vendor participants in creating the industry-wide International Roaming Access Protocols (IRAP), which has now become Seamless Access under the ETSI and 3GPP. Furthermore, FMC is only as strong as the bridges between networks, and Nomadix' gateway and roaming technologies are a great match for Intel and the industry's work toward Seamless Access. We are very pleased to be working together."
