Emulex InSpeed SOC 422 Selected for Second-Generation Deployment in Engenio Midrange Storage Systems

InSpeed's Point-to-Point Back-End Connectivity Provides Robust, Enterprise-Class Functionality and Modular Scalability

COSTA MESA, Calif., May 22, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that the Engenio Storage Group of LSI Logic Corporation has selected the Emulex InSpeed(tm) SOC 422 Embedded Storage Switch for integration into its new family of 4 Gb/s midrange storage systems. The new storage system models represent the broadest family of end-to-end 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel storage available today -- all of which incorporate Emulex's industry-standard InSpeed Embedded Storage Switch technology for enhanced scalability and performance along with Reliability, Availability and Serviceability, Usability and Installability (RASUI).

"Customer demand through OEM partners exceeded more than 3,000 Engenio 4 Gb/s systems in the past year and we expect this momentum to continue," said Steve Gardner, director of product marketing, Engenio Storage Group, LSI Logic. "Emulex helps us offer unmatched value, bringing the highest level of features and functionality to modular midrange storage networking solutions."

Customers that have announced new storage systems based on the Engenio family of 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel solutions include IBM, whose midrange DS4700 is the industry's highest bandwidth storage system with front-to-back 4GFC gear, and SGI, whose InfiniteStorage 4000 features a combination of capacity and adaptable performance to help IT organizations meet the current and future needs of technical computing and business applications.

Designed for workgroup and departmental environments requiring enterprise-class functionality and exceptional performance value, the new 4 Gb/s storage systems are ideal platforms for tiered storage and information lifecycle management (ILM) applications. By leveraging the robust Reliability, Availability, and Scalability (RAS) of the InSpeed SOC 422, users can take advantage of its backward compatibility and avoid costly upgrades by conveniently upgrading between storage system models. As the de facto, industry standard for connecting disk drives in the back end of storage systems and with nearly 12 million installed ports, InSpeed continues to raise the bar in providing reliable and high-performance storage solutions.

"This design win underscores the broad range of applications that can be enhanced through switched back-end architectures," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "With its integration into the Engenio family of 4 Gb/s midrange storage systems, the InSpeed SOC 422 delivers a new benchmark for maximizing storage system performance while improving RAS."
