Education Realty Trust Shareholders Re-Elect Distinguished Directors


MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 24, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Education Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE:EDR) today announced that shareholders at the company's 2006 annual meeting re-elected a slate of distinguished directors.

Directors elected to serve until the 2007 annual meeting or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified are:

Monte J. Barrow who is a private investor and former chief financial officer of MS Carriers, Inc., a publicly traded trucking transportation company sold in 2002. Since early 2003, Mr. Barrow has been self-employed as the owner of two privately held businesses.

Paul O. Bower who is Chairman of the Board as well as Chief Executive Officer and President of Education Realty Trust, Inc. Mr. Bower joined the predecessor company of EDR in 1969, became a senior vice president in 1979, and became Chief Executive Officer and President in 1998.

William J. Cahill, III who is Corporate Vice President of Human Resources of FedEx Corporation where he is responsible for executive compensation, succession planning, healthcare strategy, retirement investment, employment, legal compliance and HR functions.

Randall L. Churchey who is Chief Executive Officer of Golden Gate National Senior Care, America's second largest long-term care company, and Encore Real Estate Company, LLC, a hotel construction and management company. Mr. Churchey also serves on the boards of Innkeepers USA Trust, a NYSE-listed hotel real estate investment trust, and Great Wolf Resorts, Inc., a family focused resort firm listed on the NASDAQ National Market system.

Dr. John L. Ford, III who is Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life at Emory University where he leads a department of 350 employees, administers a $43 million annual budget and oversees student life outside of the classroom.

Also today, shareholders ratified the selection of Deloitte & Touche LLP as independent public accountants for the 2006 fiscal year.
