TASER Device Used to Prevent Suicide

WASHINGTON, May 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to a news release from the United Kingdom's South Yorkshire Police Department, officers were called to Peace Gardens around 7 p.m. today where witnesses reported seeing a man holding a knife to his stomach and taking a large quantity of pills. Police were unable to convince the man to put down the knife and deployed a TASER device in order to disarm and restrain the man.

The man did not sustain any injuries but was taken to Northern General Hospital where he was held for treatment.

The incident marks the first time South Yorkshire Police have used a TASER device. TASER systems were introduced to the police department as a less-lethal option for officers to carry. According the Department, CS spray and a baton would not have been as effective or could have caused injury in this situation.
