Colorful Entertainment, Unique Crafts and Games, Exotic Cuisines Highlight the Asian Festival

PECO Multicultural Series at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- In its third year, as a part of the PECO Multicultural Series, the Asian Festival will be another celebration of culture through its entertainment, music, and food. This FREE event will take place on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The Asian Festival celebrates 15 Asian cultures in one event on June 17, 2006 from 12 Noon to 6pm. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2006 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

The Asian Festival will highlight and celebrate the many contributions the diverse Pan Asian cultures has to offer with a day packed with authentic entertainment, activities and food. Entertainment will include traditional cultural dancing, many dated from thousands of years ago. In addition to the traditional and folk dances, the evolution of the Asian culture will intrigue the audience again with contemporary pop culture. Performers range in ages from 3 years old to 85 years old. The Asian Festival is truly a platform for local and professional talent from the Greater Philadelphia region coming together to celebrate the Asian culture. Come for the food and stay for the entertainment or come for the entertainment and have some food. Either way, the rich color, sounds, and sights of multiple Asian cultures are a unique experience not to be missed.

There will be a number of demonstrations to interest all in attendance. Something will be offered for everyone in the family. Watch and learn Asian floral design, Chinese painting, listen to folk tales, and much more. All activities celebrate the heritage and diversity of the Asian community and span cultural practices from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Vendors will feature a wide selection of authentic Asian arts and crafts as well as clothing and jewelry. Food vendors will offer a variety of dishes indigenous to the Asian culture.

Admission is free for all PECO Multicultural Series events. PECO presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
