Neah Power Moving to 200mm Silicon Process

SEATTLE, June 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neah Power Systems, Inc., a Nevada corporation (Pink Sheets:NPWS), today announced it is expanding the research and development of its patented porous silicon based direct methanol fuel cell using a 100mm silicon (Si) wafer to include a more efficient 200mm Si wafer process.

The Company's current process of fuel cell design primarily focuses on the use of 100mm Si wafers and was intended for general research and development purposes While the 100mm process has proven successful in producing four electrodes with an aggregate active area of 20cm2, large-scale Si processing is mainly performed on 200mm and 300mm wafers which are considered industry wide to provide the most cost effective process efficiencies.

By conforming to the 200mm Si wafer, the Company expects to produce electrodes with an aggregate active area of 202cm2, representing a 10x increase in active Si per wafer over the present 100mm process. Additionally, the adoption of a 200mm design process increases access to a wider range of partners for outsourced silicon production.

"Our internal research leads us to believe that a porous silicon-based DMFC exhibits inherently superior characteristics to traditional fuel cell architecture in terms of reliability, performance and scales of production efficiencies and costs. Adopting our current 100mm process to a 200mm process further strengthens our reach for achieving key industry milestones in terms of offering higher energy yields in a smaller package and at lower anticipated overall manufacturing cost," said Paul Abramowitz, CEO of Neah Power.
