Emulex FibreSpy Embedded Storage Switches Implemented Into the HP Enterprise Virtual Array Family

New Emulex Root Switches Selected for Third-Generation HP EVA Embedded Switching Deployment

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 19, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that it will provide HP with a custom version of its FibreSpy(tm) Model 850 embedded storage switch for the HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family. Designed for storage system providers that want to improve the flexibility of their storage systems, FibreSpy root switches provide switched point-to-point connectivity to each drive enclosure for enhanced reliability, availability and scalability (RAS), and improved performance.

"Emulex's FibreSpy technology is the storage industry's embedded solution for creating flexible, performance-driven and scalable back-end architectures in enterprise storage systems," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "The integration and extension of the FibreSpy Model 850 embedded storage switch alongside prior generations of Emulex InSpeed switches in HP EVAs reinforces both the benefits of our technology, and the depth of our relationship with HP."

The FibreSpy switches, which are ideal in root switch and fully switched architectures, are designed for storage system providers that want to improve the flexibility of their storage systems. The FibreSpy Model 850 provides the HP EVA with a switched back-end infrastructure that provides point-to-point connectivity to each drive enclosure in the array. As a result, IT administrators are able to add capacity and service the array while the system is active -- without impacting back-end performance or uptime. These benefits are offered in HP's third-generation switch deployment across the entire HP family of EVAs.

"We selected the FibreSpy root switches for the HP EVA family because it offers our customers superior performance, flexibility and reliability," said Kyle Fitze, director of SAN marketing, StorageWorks Division, HP. "By working with Emulex to integrate FibreSpy into our EVA family, HP is again showing its commitment to deliver the industry's leading storage systems."
