Two New Silsoft(tm) Silicones for Enhancement of Hair Conditioning and Skin Care Products


WILTON, Conn., July 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- GE Advanced Materials, Silicones today announced the latest additions to its well-balanced portfolio of Silsoft materials for personal care products. Silsoft(tm) HC 400 conditioning agent helps improve the performance of hair conditioners and Silsoft ETS trisiloxane helps enable improved performance of skin care and color cosmetic products.

When used in hair conditioning products, Silsoft HC 400 conditioning agent delivers a soft and natural feel and helps to minimize the damage caused by detangling. Silsoft HC 400 conditioning agent has also been shown to reduce static and flyaway more effectively than other silicones.

Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is an excellent candidate to improve color coverage in lipsticks and foundations through enhancement of pigment dispersion. When added to formulations, Silsoft ETS trisiloxane promotes fast rub-in and a dry and light after-feel and can aid in delivering uniform deposition of actives on the skin.

Both products exemplify GE's emphasis on creating products that can be easily integrated into customers' manufacturing processes. For example, Silsoft ETS trisiloxane and Silsoft HC 400 conditioning agent can be blended at low temperatures during the manufacturing process, which can help reduce manufacturing costs.

GE's Silsoft HC 400 conditioning agent is a highly stable cationic emulsion that contains cross-linked cationic aminofunctional silicone. Applications for Silsoft HC 400 conditioning agent include rinse-off and leave-in conditioners, hot oil treatments, hair repair treatments and deep conditioning products.

GE's Silsoft ETS trisiloxane is a linear siloxane that provides a higher volatility profile than industry standards D4 and D5. By facilitating faster drying times for skin products, Silsoft ETS trisiloxane helps avoid sensations of tackiness and wetness and can also help prevent undesirable effects such as smudging of mascara and eye shadow and rub-off of creams and lotions on clothing. Applications for Silsoft ETS trisiloxane include sprayable sunscreens, baby products, lipsticks and mascara.
