Police TASER Device Prevents Patient Suicide

WASHINGTON, July 7, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from The Ledger in Lakeland, Fla., Lakeland police were called to an assisted living facility on North Socrum Loop Road late Thursday afternoon on reports of an armed and distraught female patient. Upon arrival police were told by an employee that the patient was pointing the gun at her head and threatening suicide. Staff and patients in nearby rooms were evacuated.

Once at the patient's room, Officer Michael Cochran and Sgt. David Woolverton urged her to release the gun as she repeatedly drew it to and from her head. After several failed attempts to get the patient to release the gun, officers were able to deploy a TASER(r) device once she had pulled the gun away from her head and lowered it to her lap. The patient dropped the gun and officers were able to take her into custody without any physical harm and to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for further observation.

According to the police report the patient was sitting in her electric wheelchair and was also in possession of a black toolbox including a box of .22caliber bullets, a hatchet, a knife and a blue sword.
