Aquila Provides St. Louis Utility With Support in Power Restoration Efforts

KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Aquila (NYSE:ILA) today released 25 contract personnel from the company's Missouri electric operations to support AmerenUE in repairing storm-related damage that left 320,000 Ameren customers still without power Friday morning.

"It takes a tremendous amount of work and dedication to restore service to customers after a major storm. Utilities pitch in and help each other get through a tough period -- that is the tradition in our business," said Ivan Vancas, Aquila's vice president of Missouri operations.

Vancas said that Aquila was in contact with Ameren soon after the damage occurred and released 10 crews and trucks with about 25 support personnel to help with the outages that occurred in the St. Louis area.

Aquila serves approximately 300,000 electric customers in Missouri. Based in Kansas City, Mo., the company provides electricity and natural gas service to approximately 1 million customers in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
