About the Author

Educated in European and American schools, the author traveled widely, by plane, ship, and train, visiting such countries as England, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Egypt. After combat service in two wars -- World War II and the Korean War -- the author settled in Washington, D.C., where he built his career and made a home for his family. A multilingual writer/editor and student of the Classics, the author specializes in foreign-language research in science, technology, and medicine. His hobbies included horseback riding, rowing, hiking, and camping activities that prepared him for dicey wartime situations, such as capture and escape from enemy captivity. Other favorite family activities include the theater, opera, antiquing. He also plays the piano, now and then, mostly when he knows nobody is listening.
