Bolster Business Skills Through Mercer County Community College's Center for Continuing Studies This Fall

WEST WINDSOR, N.J., July 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- For business professionals interested in enhancing their resumes or learning new skills for exciting career changes, Mercer County Community College's Continuing Education Division offers many courses this fall to make these goals possible. Courses are offered on Mercer's West Windsor Campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road (located near Trenton in central New Jersey). Most courses meet in the evenings or on weekends to accommodate busy work schedules.

According to Yvonne Chang, Director of Community Education, the MCCC Noncredit Division expands its course list according to needs identified by the business community, and offers repeat courses in many high demand fields, particularly the ever-changing field of computers.

Starting in September, the division will offer "Certified Bookkeeper," designed for bookkeepers with at least two years' experience who are preparing for the certification exam offered by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. The course, taught by two certified public accountants, meets from Sept. 18-Dec. 18.

Additional preparation courses for professional certification include "Payroll Professional" from Sept. 11-Oct. 16 and PHR/SPHR "Professional in Human Resources" prep course from Sept. 19-Dec. 12. Mercer offers numerous courses in partnership with the American Management Association that lead to a certificate in "Leadership Excellence," "Project Management," "Management," or "Human Resources."

For those starting their own business, the certificate program in "Small Business Management" is a comprehensive series of short-term courses to ready participants for the challenges of new business ventures. Topics include: preparing business and marketing plans, advertising, communications, technology and more. Classes start on Sept. 13 and continue through November.

The "Interior Design" certificate program has grown to include 10 classes that help participants make educated design decisions. Starting with "Principles of Design" on Sept. 11, classes will cover all the major elements of design including color theory and lighting, furniture and wall arrangements, fabrics, finishes and window treatments, and construction materials and environmental impact.

In the area of computer literacy and training, the Noncredit Division offers classes in Windows, Word XP and Excel. Those seeking more specialized and advanced training will find courses in PC Services and Support, MS PowerPoint, QuickBooks, HTML, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Photoshop and web design and development. Certificate programs are available in MS Word, Excel, Web Design, Java, C++ Networking and Oracle.

Those in the construction field will be able to sharpen their managerial skills and technical expertise in the "Construction Project Management" certificate program. Popular courses include "Construction Blueprint Reading" from Sept. 6-Oct. 2 and "Contract Law in the Construction Industry" from Oct. 5-26. Other key topics are materials, methods and systems of construction, and cost estimating. All courses may be taken on an individual basis.

Within the marketing and communications concentration, business professionals can take advantage of two new courses: "Effective Presentation Skills and Public Speaking" from Sept. 13-Oct. 11, and "E-Commerce Basics" from Nov. 15-Dec. 20.

The MCCC Noncredit Division continues to expand its online training options, with hundreds of courses on topics ranging from anatomy to web design. Most courses run for six weeks and are composed of 12 lessons that can be completed at any time of day or night.
