PASCAGOULA, Miss., July 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) a $58.4 million contract to continue life cycle engineering and technical services in support of the Navy's fleet of USS Ticonderoga (CG 47) class Aegis guided missile cruisers.

The company's Ship Systems sector will perform the work in Pascagoula, and provide waterfront support in various U.S. Navy ports. This is projected to be a five-year program. Today's contract award is for the first year; four one-year options are to follow.
"This award demonstrates the confidence the U.S. Navy has in the outstanding work being performed by Northrop Grumman," said Kevin Jarvis, vice president of Aegis programs for Northrop Grumman's Ship Systems sector. "Much of this contract work will support the cruiser modernization effort which, when implemented, will increase the service life and war-fighting capability of these ships another 20 years. These cruisers represent a significant portion of the Navy's surface combatants, and this contract validates Northrop Grumman's long-standing reputation for excellence in this area of work."
Northrop Grumman will provide engineering services and material procurement work in support of the maintenance and modernization efforts on CG 47 class ships. With lead work being performed in Pascagoula, the waterfront projects will take place in Norfolk, Va., Mayport, Fla., San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Yokosuka, Japan.
Northrop Grumman, as lead shipbuilder for the Aegis cruiser program, delivered 19 of the 27 ships in the Ticonderoga class between 1982 and 1994.
