Inaugural O'side Turkey Trot Set for Thanksgiving Day 2006

Oceanside Promotes Fitness for Community with Thanksgiving Day Race

OCEANSIDE, Calif., Aug. 1, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Award-winning race management company, Kinane Events, along with Fitness Together and local community leaders, today announced the official launch of the O'side Turkey Trot (www.osideturkeytrot.com). Slated to become North County's largest running race and the only San Diego Turkey Trot finishing on the beach, the Turkey Trot will showcase downtown Oceanside, from the Civic Center to the Oceanside Pier, on Thanksgiving morning (Thursday, November 23, 2006).

The O'side Turkey Trot features several races:

 -- 7:30 a.m. -- Open 5K Run/Walk
 -- 8:20 a.m. -- Local's Only 5K
      Oceanside residents (Zip codes: 92054, 55, 56, 57, 49, 51
      and 52 only)
 -- 9:15 a.m. -- Pier-to-Pier Kid's Race (1.2 mile run for kids 12
    years and under)

With the goal of getting North County residents to "Move Their Feet Before They Eat," the O'side Turkey Trot plans to raise funds for fitness programs in local schools, as well as the Virginia Ann Schueneman Memorial Fund, which helps purchase prosthetic devices and wigs for uninsured women with cancer.

"We are optimistic that this will be the first of many O'side Turkey Trots and that the event will turn into a Thanksgiving tradition for all families in North County," said Kathy Kinane, president of Kinane Events.

To help runners and walkers train for the race, starting October 2nd, Fitness Together will begin an eight-week training program throughout Coastal North County (Oceanside Civic Center, Batiquitos Lagoon Downtown Carlsbad and Rancho Buena Vista High School). Registration fees for the race are as follows: $23 for the Open 5K Run/Walk; $22 for the Local's Only 5K; and $12 for the Pier-to-Pier Kid's Race. Juniors (ages 13-17), seniors (60+) and military personnel will receive $2.00 off the registration fee. Late fees will apply to those registering after September 2, 2006. Students and school employees who raise more than the race registration fee can donate the additional proceeds to their schools.

Additionally, race participants are encouraged to arrive in their best Thanksgiving-themed attire for a costume contest following the Turkey Trot. For more information, please call 760-434-5255 or e-mail info@kinaneevents.com.
