Huntington Beach, Calif. Continues Branding Efforts With Four New Trademark Licensees

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Aug. 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Building on the success of the burgeoning Surf City USA(R) brand name, the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau has incorporated four new opportunities with additional marketing partners: an official Surf City USA store, credit union, musical and a line of sportswear.

"Our community takes considerable pride in the Surf City USA moniker and all that it has come to represent about our lifestyle and the people who live here," said Doug Traub, president, Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau. "We now have six licensing partners in our family with products spanning the globe."

This month, the established HB Store at 301 Main St., Huntington Beach, will post new signage declaring its designation as the official Surf City USA store. It will feature a section devoted entirely to merchandise prominently displaying the Surf City USA logo, including coffee mugs, key chains and T-shirts.

In September 2006, clothing manufacturer Summit West will release a line of Surf City USA apparel, including t-shirts and high-end resort wear. The new collection will be marketed through resort and specialty stores in the U.S., Canada and Caribbean.

Also adopting the trademark is the nuVision Financial Federal Credit Union, becoming the official Surf City USA(R) Credit Union. "Surf City USA, the Musical," will run from August 4-20, 2006. Written and directed by local artists, the musical is a nostalgic look back to the surf culture of the 1950s.

These new licensing opportunities join the successful Surf City USA Beach Cruiser bicycle, released by Felt Bicycles in the spring of 2006 and a line of t-shirts by Giant Merchandising. The Surf City USA license is managed by Global Icons, a licensing agency specializing in the development of corporate brands and trademarks.

Since branding itself with the Surf City USA(R) name in November of 2004, overnight travel to Huntington Beach has increased dramatically, with hotel taxes swelling by almost $1 million or 21 percent. Three new upscale hotels with ocean views are planned to capitalize on demand. The Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau has registered three Surf City USA trademarks such as sportswear and bags, with seven other applications under review by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
