ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif., Aug. 3, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Friends of Canyon Acres (FOCAS) and the Yorba Linda Country Club today announced they netted $65,000 in the 21st Annual "Par Fore Kids" Golf Classic, which took place on Monday July 31, 2006. The event was chaired by Lowry A. Alkire, and sponsors included The Yorba Linda Country Club, Kent H. Landsberg, and Caliber Motors. More than 100 golfers participated, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to help the abused children of Canyon Acres Children and Family Services.
Founded in 1983 as an auxiliary group to support Canyon Acres, Friends of Canyon Acres (FOCAS) raises funds and community awareness for Canyon Acres and the children and families it serves. The "Par Fore Kids" Golf Classic is an exciting full-day event, including 18 holes of golf, 4 hole-in-one contests, breakfast and lunch, dinner appetizers, an awards program, live and silent auctions, and tournament contests.
Canyon Acres is the only facility in Orange County and surrounding areas that serves the most severely abused and emotionally troubled children ages 6 through 17. Since 1980, Canyon Acres has been providing the highest level of care, therapeutic treatment and, most importantly, a home, to Southern California children who suffer from a variety of emotional and psychological disorders. These disorders result from family histories of child abuse, substance abuse, domestic violence and mental illness. In caring for these children, Canyon Acres is recognized as a model for agencies in the area based on their ability to move children into less restrictive environments as their functioning levels improve.
