Universal Detection Technology Expands Its Relationship With Caltech by Licensing Additional Cutting Edge Technologies in the Field of Microbial Monitoring


LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB:UDTT) (FWB:PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bio-terrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that it has licensed additional cutting edge technologies in the fields of Microbial Monitoring and Sterility Verification from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

The technologies were developed by Dr. Adrian Ponce, the technical group supervisor of the Life Detection and Sample Handling Technologies Group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Dr. Ponce is also visiting member at the Caltech chemistry and bioengineering departments. The technologies, as indicated on the patent applications with the US Patent Office include: "Live/Dead Assay for bacterial spores by airborne sampling" and "Airborne bacterial spores as an indicator of total biomass in an indoor environment."

"Commercializing the new technologies will allow UDTT to expand its range of products from bioagent detection to the fields of cleanup verification and Monitoring of Total Microbial Concentration," said Amir Ettehadieh, UDTT's Director of Research and Development. "We plan to elaborate on details of each technology in future releases," he added. Bacterial spore detection technology which UDTT has licensed from Caltech since 2002 currently serves as the basis for UDTT's BSM-2000 bacterial spore monitoring device.
