TASER Technology to Be Presented to State Legislators in Nashville

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- In an on-going effort to make communities safer for all citizens, law enforcement is deploying more non-lethal options as a way of de-escalating potentially violent situations. One of the most effective, yet controversial, new technologies is the TASER(r) device. TASER systems are currently deployed by more than 9,500 law enforcement agencies across the country. Statistics show that this technology is reducing injuries to both suspects and officers and saving communities money in lost wages, workmen's compensation, and lawsuits. It is no surprise that a Zogby International poll found that 77 percent of Americans support law enforcement use of TASER devices.

However, there are still numerous groups that claim TASER devices are dangerous and are being misused by law enforcement. In more than half the states across the country, legislation relevant to the use and regulation of TASER technology has been considered, and in some cases passed, over the past couple of years. Clearly this is an issue that has been discussed by your elected leaders and we encourage you to learn more in order to educate your readers.

TASER International provides advanced electronic control devices for use in the law enforcement, military, private security and personal safety markets. TASER devices use proprietary technology in a manner that is generally recognized as a safer alternative to other uses of force to incapacitate dangerous, combative or high-risk subjects who pose a risk to law enforcement officers, innocent citizens or themselves. TASER technology saves lives every day and the use of TASER devices dramatically reduces injury rates for police officers and suspects.
