Emulex MultiPulse Failover Software Receives HP Support

Emulex Solution Provides Failover and Static Load Balancing Capabilities to Ensure Continuous Data Availability in Linux Environments

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 25, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that the Emulex MultiPulse software solution is now supported by HP, bringing full-featured multipathing capabilities to active/active storage array customers using Emulex HBAs within Linux 2.6-based storage environments. Emulex MultiPulse software solution can enhance HP storage systems by offering failover and static load balancing capabilities to ensure continuous data availability.

Emulex's MultiPulse technology aggregates the bandwidth and availability of HBAs, switch ports, and array controllers, and intelligently manages multiple I/O streams. This functionality is designed to maximize the efficiency and utilization of fabric resources and provide improved performance.

"HP support for MultiPulse helps customers maximize the efficiency and utilization of SAN infrastructure solutions, while providing improved performance," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "Incorporating the Emulex MultiPulse solutions also enables delivery of highly available storage solutions."

As part of Emulex's HBA driver software, MultiPulse defines and monitors multiple end-to-end paths for each configured logical unit number (LUN) based on visibility into the entire storage area network (SAN). As a result, MultiPulse can instantly reroute traffic around a failed component within the fabric, protecting application availability while enabling superior SAN reliability, performance and resource utilization. Emulex MultiPulse is easily installed, configured and managed either locally or remotely using Emulex's HBA management suite, HBAnyware.

"By supporting Emulex MultiPulse software, we can now offer our Linux customers a choice for reliable, low cost SAN solutions for high availability," said Kyle Fitze, director of SAN marketing, StorageWorks Division, HP. "Native multipath management is a key part of our strategy to simplify and reduce the cost of FC SANs."

Emulex's MultiPulse software is designed, optimized and tested for the high-availability attachment of HP StorageWorks arrays to HP server families, both 32- and 64-bit and including HP p-Class and c-Class BladeSystem servers.
