TASER Device Ends Police Standoff


WASHINGTON, Aug. 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from Easton, Pennsylvania's Express-Times, a 43-year-old man is in police custody after an early-morning standoff Saturday with police at the Serendipity Motel on North Delaware Drive. The standoff began about 1 a.m. when Lawrence Joseph Klinger and motel neighbor Melissa E. Flyte got into an argument during which Klinger allegedly grabbed and threw Flyte's glasses into the parking lot and used a lawn chair to damage a parked vehicle. Police said Klinger then went back into his motel room and reappeared in the motel's common area with several kitchen knives. Klinger then attempted to charge Bangor officers Scott Trethaway and Jason Bell but stopped short of a physical attack.

Multiple township police departments and state police arrived at the Serendipity Motel and, after a brief standoff, a Bushkill Township officer deployed his TASER device to subdue and take Klinger into custody.

Klinger was transported to Easton Hospital for treatment is being held for mental evaluation. He faces charges ranging from public drunkenness to aggravated assault. Klinger was charged but cleared of threatening to kill a Washington Township family and burn their home down on July 28th of last month.
