Buffalo Takes the Lead in the Worldwide Consumer NAS Market

Another Market Share Report, This One by ABI Research, Indicates Buffalo Continues to Command the NAS Market With Its High Performance, Consumer-Friendly Network Storage Devices

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 30, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions today announced it leads the worldwide consumer NAS (Network Attached Storage) market for the first half of 2006 with 17% market share, according to a recent report by ABI Research. An earlier report by NPD Group placed Buffalo in the lead of the U.S. retail NAS market. The new report by ABI boosts Buffalo's lead to a global level.

"The increasing popularity of NAS devices in the consumer market comes to no surprise considering vast amounts of digital content being downloaded, stored and shared in the home, so of course we are thrilled to be at the forefront of such a revolution," stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "ABI Research is a leading and highly respected analyst firm. It is an honor for them to state Buffalo is the worldwide leader of a highly evolving market such as the consumer NAS market and proves we're on the right track -- providing high-quality, feature-rich NAS devices that are very affordable and easy-to use."

ABI's latest report on the Consumer Network Storage Market finds that the worldwide market for consumer network storage will increase to nearly $1.2 billion by 2011.

"Our research indicates that while consumers are only just beginning to learn about NAS, most understand they need help to manage and safeguard their growing collections of digital media," stated Michael Wolf, Practice Director for Digital Home at ABI Research. "More and more, ABI Research believes that consumers will look to consumer network storage as a way to accomplish this, using NAS solutions as a central repository as well as backup for valuable content such as digital photos, video and documents. Buffalo is well positioned to take advantage of this growing need with its wide ranging family of consumer NAS products."

Buffalo's award-winning line of NAS devices includes the TeraStation Home Server and LinkStation Home Server, which are certified for meeting all DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) Guidelines so users can access videos, photos or music stored on the home server and play it back on any digital device designed to DLNA guidelines in the home such as a television or network media device. The TeraStation Home Server is available in capacities of 1TB (HS-1.0TGL/R5), 1.6TB (HS-1.6TGL/R5) and 2TB (HS-2.0TGL/R5).
