Photo Release -- U.S. Rep. Edwards Honored as TPA Port Person of the Year


HOUSTON, Aug. 30, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- More than 30 guests attended the luncheon and ceremony honoring U.S. Representative Chet Edwards as the 2006 Port Person of the Year. The event at the Downtown Club at Shell Plaza was hosted by the Port of Houston Authority (PHA) and the Texas Ports Association (TPA).

Edwards, the only Texan among the members of the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, was saluted for his committed advocacy on behalf of seaports throughout of Texas. The subcommittee oversees key homeland defense programs, and Edwards has been instrumental in garnering substantial levels of federal funding aimed at maintaining the viability and security of Texas' ports.

Joining in the ceremony saluting Edwards were PHA Chairman Jim Edmonds along with Matt Woodruff, treasurer and incoming president of the Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association; former congressman Jim Chapman; and TPA President Chris Fisher, who serves as the executive director of the Port of Beaumont.
