TASER Device Deployed to Stop Armed Assault on Police

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from Florida's Bradenton Herald, a Manatee man pulled a gun on police early Saturday morning outside of his Winding Stream Way home. Police received a call at about 3:53 a.m. from Dean Michaelson's wife claiming that her husband was missing and possibly armed. Officers arrived at their home and after a brief search, found the 62-year-old man in the enclosed pool behind the couple's home. Michaelson was initially combative but later became calm as he told police that he was carrying a gun. Officers later determined that the gun was loaded.

Michaelson reached into the pocket of his shorts, refusing to comply with the request of officers to remove his hand, and pulled out the gun. Deputy Mike Jones responded by deploying his TASER device, forcing Michaelson to drop the weapon which he then reached for on the ground. Michaelson was pushed away from the gun before Deputy Josh Flesicher deployed his TASER device. The man then jumped into his pool where police were able to restrain him and take him into custody.

Michaelson faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
