CDG Congratulates ZTE on Selling More Than 10 Million CDMA2000 Handsets

ZTE's Focus on 3G is Enabling the Company to Become a Leader Within the Wireless Industry

BEIJING, Sept. 12, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) congratulated ZTE, China's second largest equipment maker, on selling more than 10 million CDMA2000(r) handsets. In particular, the ZTE C150 handset sold above and beyond expectations, attaining over three million unit sales in just six months.

"The CDG is pleased to see ZTE's vigorous sales in the CDMA2000 market," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "As manufacturers continue to introduce new phones with a higher degree of functionality at a lower cost, the CDG expects the market for CDMA2000 technology to continue to expand rapidly."

In 2005, ZTE sold more phones abroad than in China -- with 2 million units sold in India alone. ZTE recently announced it won a contract to supply China Unicom with the ZTE H500, a CDMA/GSM dual-mode, quad-band, WorldMode(tm) phone, as part of the operator's World Wind global roaming mobile phone service and also announced a deal to provide CDMA2000 1xEV-DO to Canada's TELUS.

He Shiyou, senior vice president of ZTE and general manager of handset division, said, "ZTE is pleased to witness the rapid adoption of CDMA2000 mobile phones around the world. The demand for high-quality devices is on the rise, especially as new applications are enabled with CDMA2000 technology. We credit our success to the high quality of our products, remaining flexible to meet operator demands, and offering a large portfolio of devices from entry-level to high-end."
