Airvana and Tatara Systems Ink Combined Fixed-Mobile Convergence Deal

Joint Solution to Provide Carrier-Grade, Secure, Seamless FMC Solution for Service Providers

CHELMSFORD and ACTON, Mass., Sept. 12, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvana.com), an innovator and leader in mobile broadband infrastructure based on 3G mobile broadband technology, and Tatara Systems (www.tatarasystems.com), a leader in delivering carrier-class converged mobile solutions, today announced an agreement to co-develop and market solutions for operators looking to extend their services across Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Bluetooth, and other IP-based access technologies. Under the terms of the agreement, the Airvana Universal Access Gateway (UAG), the Tatara Service Manager, and the Tatara Subscriber Gateway will work together to manage the seamless, secure, and reliable delivery of carrier-branded services-including voice, video and data.

"We are pleased to partner with Airvana in order to provide a complete solution to this critical piece of the convergence puzzle," said Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Tatara Systems. "Airvana is a proven leader in mobile broadband infrastructure, and the UAG addresses a critical network infrastructure market need providing security, quality of service (QoS), and mobility across networks."

The UAG resides between the service provider's core network and any IP-based access network, enabling voice, data, and multimedia traffic to be delivered between the networks while protecting the carrier core from attacks. The UAG ensures that applications delivered over IP networks are secure, fully mobile within and across IP-based networks, and receive the necessary QoS handling. Compliant with UMTS and CDMA standard protocols, the UAG provides a carrier-class solution for Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) deployments with integrated subscriber authentication, policy enforcement, and accounting.

Tatara's Mobile Services Convergence Platform, consisting of the Tatara Service Manager client software and Tatara Subscriber Gateway, enables service providers to deploy converged mobile services today with a seamless evolution to IMS. The Tatara Service Manager client software is available on laptop, PDA and smartphone operating systems and offers an extensive range of capabilities, including security, QoS, and mobility across networks. The Tatara Subscriber Gateway enables the delivery of a rich and consistent set of converged mobile services to new devices and users. It provides a convergence gateway between the mobile end user device and the Service Provider infrastructure independent of the access network. When combined with the UAG, the Tatara solution provides ground breaking network security, QoS, and IP mobility.

"Whereas Airvana has focused on delivering a highly reliable network element to enable security, IP mobility and QoS for FMC, Tatara has focused on the services side, delivering the convergence services themselves via their gateway," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana. "The two solutions are perfect complements to each other."
