Five Years After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 Health Centers Around the World Still Not Ready for Bio-terrorism

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB:UDTT) (www.udetection.com) (FWB:PO8) commented today on the country's preparedness for bio-terrorism.

Five years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 health centers around the world still lack preparedness for dealing with a possible attack with biological agents. Despite considerable efforts by various governments to identify and implement viable and efficient detection and decontamination technologies, many critical facilities and infrastructure remain vulnerable to a biological attack.

"Terrorists have proven to us time and again that they are intent on using any weapon at their disposal to harm the U.S. and its allies. Furthermore, we have witnessed prior use of such deadly agents as recently as in 2001. Neither the source of anthrax spores used in the attacks of 2001 nor the culprits behind those attacks were ever found. In light of these circumstances, it is in our best national interest to take precautionary measures to reduce or to eliminate the possible devastation that can result from a possible anthrax attack," said Nima Montazeri, UDTT's VP of Strategic Development. "Public places need to be equipped with state of the art detection technologies and health centers must be trained to deal with catastrophes and disasters in a timely manner if a potential biological attack is to be countered effectively," he added.

In Japan, according to a recent article published in the Japan Times Online, thirty one percent of public health centers do not have teams that can deal with bio-terrorism and twenty six percent do not have guidelines on how to deal with such an attack despite being required by the government. These numbers clearly outline the need for planning services and technologies such as those provided by UDTT on a global scale. "We look forward to communicating our message and offering our counter-terrorism expertise to customers globally," Montazeri said.
