Huntington Beach Sets Record Hotel Revenue in July

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Sept. 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Warm summer weather, a healthy U.S. economy and a strategic marketing effort resulted in a record month of hotel revenue for Huntington Beach, California. Hotel revenue for July 2006 totaled $7,299,880, a 7.7 percent increase over July 2005, which tallied at $6,777,660, making it the highest month of hotel revenue on record for the city. There are 17 hotels and motels within Huntington Beach, with 1,670 total guest rooms.

The increase in hotel revenues has generated an additional $52,000 in transient occupancy taxes (TOT) for the city of Huntington Beach during July 2006. Huntington Beach has seen a 62 percent increase in annual hotel revenue, a $22 million lift, since the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau began marketing the city under the Surf City USA(r) trademark.

"The Surf City USA brand has truly helped to put Huntington Beach on the map, as evidenced by this new record," said Doug Traub, president of the Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau. "With new hotel, shopping and restaurant developments continuing through 2008, Huntington Beach is well its way to becoming the premier beach vacation spot on the West Coast and an international destination."

Plans continue to maintain the momentum of the Surf City USA brand. Three new upscale hotels with ocean views are planned to capitalize on demand. The Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau has registered four Surf City USA trademarks with a product line including a top-selling beach cruiser bicycle, credit union services and sportswear.
