Mediware Gains Momentum as Hospitals Automate Surgical Suites

Three Prestigious Facilities Implement Mediware's Perioperative Solution Suite to Automate Support of Pre-Op, Post-Op and PACU Functions, Two New Clients Sign Contracts

LENEXA, Kan., Sept. 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mediware Information Systems (Nasdaq:MEDW) announced that its Perioperative Solutions(tm) software suite is gaining momentum in the market as hospitals and specialty surgery centers increase the use of automated solutions to address efficiency and patient safety objectives. Mediware, whose solution has been ranked number one in user satisfaction for three consecutive quarters by MD Buyline, is an emerging player in operating room automation offering rich business outcome management capabilities in addition to traditional scheduling, charting and documentation capabilities.

In the past five months, three facilities have implemented the software and two new accounts were added to the company's client base. The recent implementations represent two very large facilities, including New York's Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and the UMass Memorial Medical Center, as well as Midlands Orthopedics, a specialty provider for orthopedic surgery which was announced in June 2006. Mediware also recently licensed Perioperative Solutions to Wilkes Regional Medical Center as part of an enterprise-wide implementation with QuadraMed, a Mediware partner.

Hospital for Special Surgery

HSS, in New York City, has been recognized since its inception more than 100 years ago as a world leader in musculoskeletal medicine. With only 146 beds and 30 operating rooms, the hospital manages more than 240,000 patient visits and performs over 17,800 procedures per year. Despite its size, HSS continually ranks at the top of every performance ranking, has earned Magnet(tm) recognition for nursing quality, pioneered the first total knee replacement, and has one of the most sought after residency programs in orthopedics. Its accomplishments and scientific advances clearly make HSS one of Mediware's most prestigious clients.

"We were very pleased with our relationship with Mediware," said Carla Silvano, Coordinator of Clinical Information Systems, Perioperative Services at HSS. "The team worked hard to meet our requirements and the products intuitive, user friendly design made it easy to learn and use."

UMass Memorial Medical Center

UMass Memorial Medical Center, in Worchester, MA, is part of the largest health care system in Central and Western Massachusetts, and has 40 operating rooms across a three facility campus. Surgical services at UMass Memorial include comprehensive diagnostic, consultative and operative care and it is rated as a Level One Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients. The breadth of the surgical staff and the state-of-the-art hospital facilities permit complex surgical procedures and sophisticated supportive care for critically ill patients.

Midlands Orthopedics

Midlands Orthopedic, in Columbia, SC, was founded in 1981 by Dr. Richard J. Davis and has since grown to include 14 physicians and 3 offices. Midlands is committed to providing the best orthopedic care possible and chose to leverage system automation to enable the growing firm to expand its capabilities while maintaining an efficient and effective business operation. A key aspect of the Midlands implementation was the speed in which the Mediware team was able to configure and install PS for the clients. In a matter of weeks the first module was brought online, enabling clinicians to schedule and track patients. The implementation of the remaining modules is in process, following a schedule defined with Midlands staff.

Wilkes Regional Medical Center

Wilkes Regional Medical Center, in North Wilkesboro, NC, is the latest client to select Mediware's Perioperative Solutions. Wilkes Regional is a 130 bed, community owned facility that is in the process of deploying a comprehensive enterprise wide system environment from Quadramed, a Mediware partner. In addition to Mediware's Perioperative Solution Wilkes Regional's strategy will include Quadramed's electronic health records (EHR), laboratory information system (LIS), radiology/PACS, and other systems to deliver a complete overhaul to the facility's computer systems.

"We are very proud of our clients' accomplishments in going live with Perioperative Solutions," said Paul O'Toole, vice president and general manager of Mediware's Perioperative Management division. "The achievements of these clients, combined with the increased momentum we've experience in the market place and continued recognition of MD Buyline, clearly show that the scale and capabilities of Perioperative Solutions is well positioned in a growing market."
