Tennessee Man Wins Tyson Foods 'King of the Grill' Recipe Contest

Winning Recipe Features Tyson Pork Loin Country Style Ribs


SPRINGDALE, Ark., Sept. 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- A recipe featuring Tyson(r) Pork Loin Country Style Ribs has been selected grand prize winner of Tyson Foods' first-ever "King of the Grill" recipe contest.

The winning recipe was submitted by Mr. L. C. Norman of Milton, Tennessee, and is called "Coffee Bean & Star Anise 'Rubbed' Ribs with Asian Glaze." It was one of hundreds of entries in the competition. G. Garvin, one of the nation's top celebrity chefs and host of the TV show "Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin," on TV One, judged the top five entries.

Winning recipes were chosen for their creative use of Tyson meat protein products based on taste, appearance, originality and ease of preparation.

"We received some mouthwatering recipes featuring Tyson chicken, beef and pork from people all over the country," said Sue Quillin, vice president of Marketing Services for Tyson Foods. "The contest is a great way to highlight the many delicious ways our high quality meat and poultry products can be prepared. Our thanks to all who participated in the contest and to G. Garvin for helping us crown the 'King of the Grill'."

As the grand prize winner, Norman earns the opportunity to meet G. Garvin. In addition, he will be featured in a national print ad and will receive $500 in spending cash and a deluxe grill.

The other contest winners included first runner-up Judy Armstrong of Prairieville, Louisiana, for Lemon Thyme Infused Grilled Pork Tenderloin; second runner-up Loanne Chiu of Fort Worth, Texas for Cajun Hurricane Beef Kabobs; third runner-up Lisa Lipschutz of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, for Pomegranate Roasted Steak, and fourth runner up Lisa Menichello Huff of Fort Myers, Florida, for Double Grilled Aloha Chicken Quesadillas.
