TASER Device Stops Defendant in Courtroom Attack

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Associated Press out of South Carolina, a 29-year-old man convicted of molesting a now 15-year-old girl over the past two years lunged at the prosecutor Wednesday in Georgetown County, after learning he could receive a life sentence in prison without parole. Shannon McGee grabbed the neck of prosecutor Robert "Bo" Bryan, attempting to choke the man after the jury found him guilty of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and a lewd act on a minor. A deputy in the courtroom deployed his TASER device to control McGee who was holding the neck of Bryan.

McGee was removed from the courtroom while he was sentenced to life without parole. Though McGee cannot serve more time, deputies have charged the man with assault and battery with intent to kill and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Defense lawyer Stuart Axelrod was stunned by his client's behavior stating, "I did not expect it. He's been a gentleman to me throughout this."
