NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Wall Street Journal today announced it has promoted five key advertising sales executives.

"Our sales and marketing efforts have defied industry trends and these promotions reflect the hard work and talent of our senior sales executives," said Judy Barry, senior vice president of sales and marketing, The Wall Street Journal.

Through August 2006, the Journal has increased advertising revenue, which includes Weekend Edition, 13.1%; advertising linage has increased 12.2% through this period. Advertising volume has increased significantly in all key advertising categories, including: Financial, General Business and Consumer Advertising, Technology and Classified.

The Journal sales executives promoted include:

-- David Forgione, vice president, business advertising group
-- Marti Gallardo, vice president, classified advertising
-- Jessica Sibley, vice president, financial advertising group
-- Richard Skeen, vice president, consumer advertising group
-- Robert Valeiko, vice president, national sales offices

Due to the efforts of these executives and the entire sales organization, The Wall Street Journal continues to be ranked number one in terms of total revenue as measured by more than 250 magazines and newspapers in TNS Media Intelligence's MagAdvisor database. In addition, the Journal continues to be the number one ranked publication for dollar revenue increases year-to-date in 2006.

Additionally, strong sales efforts for the WSJ Weekend Edition have brought in more than 1000 advertisers since its launch in September 2005, over 60% of which are new to The Journal.

"These outstanding sales executives have the sales and leadership skills that the Journal will count on for industry-leading advertising results as we move forward with the much-anticipated redesign of the Journal in 2007," Ms. Barry added.
