Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Honors Longtime Leaders of the Industry in Its Annual Hall of Fame

The Carlyle Group, Sutter Hill Ventures and Stanford Management Company Inducted into Hall of Fame at Private Equity Analyst Conference in New York

NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Three of the leading forces in the private equity industry-The Carlyle Group, Sutter Hill Ventures and Stanford Management Company-were inducted into the Private Equity Hall of Fame at the 2006 Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Conference.

The Private Equity Hall of Fame, sponsored this year by Paul Capital Partners, was established in 1994 to honor individuals and organizations that made exemplary and enduring contributions to the private equity community.

"The goal in establishing the Hall of Fame was to honor firms and individuals that have had a true impact on the private equity community," said David Barry, managing editor with Dow Jones Financial Information Services. "Given Stanford's longstanding commitment to the venture scene, Sutter Hill's longevity and the Carlyle Group's push into new markets, all three clearly deserved to be honored."

The Carlyle Group was honored in the buyout/private equity category for its distinguished track record and its innovative approach to investing. Editors of the Private Equity Analyst newsletter noted in particular the firm's targeting of new growth industries as well as new geographies that have proven private equity's viability as a global endeavor.

Sutter Hill Ventures, founded in 1962, was honored in the venture capital category for its critical role in developing the venture capital industry, particularly on the West Coast. It was also noted for its significant investing record in both the information technology and health care industries and its ability to adapt its focus over more than 40 years of investing.

For its longstanding commitment to the private equity industry, Stanford Management Company was honored in the limited partner category. Specifically, the university's investing arm was noted for its role in developing the West Coast venture industry through its early backing of now-more prominent venture firms. It also was cited for its willingness to seed or co-invest with venture firms in innovative companies coming out of its classrooms and labs.

All told, 55 individuals and firms have been honored as of this year. Previous inductees include Gen. Georges Doriot, Thomas H. Lee, Alan Patricof, The Blackstone Group, Greylock, Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, and Yale University.

The inductees were honored at a special ceremony at last week's Private Equity Analyst Conference. Paul Capital Partners Founder Philip S. Paul presented the awards. This year's conference drew more than 1,000 attendees, including a record-breaking number of over 130 limited partners, illustrating its place as the preeminent conference for the private equity industry.
