Northrop Grumman Partners With Fairfax County Public Schools for e.Assessment System

McLEAN, Va., Oct. 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) and Fairfax County Public Schools have partnered to provide schools with a unique formative assessment program to assist teachers with building tests, analyzing results, collaborating with other teachers and reporting performance. This comprehensive Web-based program, called e.Assessment, comprises the information technology (IT) infrastructure, software, and services-oriented IT support.

The term "e.Assessment" refers to a total assessment solution for educators based on best practice assessment-related activities. e.Assessment will provide educators with a comprehensive formative and summative assessment tool that is flexible and fits the needs of educators in today's environment of accountability.

"Students, educators, schools, districts and parents will all benefit from a system that allows specific subject testing and provides detailed feedback on a student's performance," said Sidney Fuchs, president of Northrop Grumman's Civilian Agencies group. "We have used our expertise with business process management to build this system with Fairfax County Public Schools."

Northrop Grumman's business process management clients, including 1.8 million users in the federal civilian government, have optimized their processes in cost, quality, and time. By focusing on the connection of people with information and process, Northrop Grumman's solutions help organizations monitor outcomes and achieve best practices.

The e.Assessment system for Fairfax County Public Schools will link assessment questions with specific learning standards from the Virginia standards of learning (SOL) to provide teachers with performance feedback to help improve each student's learning and better prepare them for success on the SOL exams. This analysis will enable a school to continually improve its instruction methods, maximizing the school's opportunity to succeed. This application will provide a powerful tool to help schools improve achievement of the Virginia SOL standards and meet the goals of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
