SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 16, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Meritage Homes Corporation (NYSE:MTH), a leading U.S. homebuilder, today announced the appointment of Steve Davis as executive vice president - national homebuilding operations, reporting to Steven J. Hilton, chairman and chief executive officer of Meritage.

Davis brings 24 years of homebuilding experience to Meritage. Most recently, he led a start-up operation for a major homebuilder in the post-hurricane Katrina Gulf Coast. Prior to that, he held region president responsibilities, including participation on corporate-level committees focused on construction, customer service and purchasing, and successfully executed a turnaround strategy that significantly improved customer satisfaction while gaining operating efficiencies.
In this newly created role, Davis will be a key member of Meritage's leadership team, with responsibilities including oversight of the Company's customer satisfaction, national supply chain and national marketing initiatives, and the implementation of best practices across its operating divisions. Additionally, Davis will collaborate in the development of the Company's training programs, technology upgrades, as well as oversight of joint ventures, land and acquisition strategies.
Davis graduated from Park University with a master's degree in operations management and a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Arkansas. He will be based in the Meritage corporate office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
