SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 24, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Oracle (Nasdaq:ORCL) together with The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (Nasdaq:NDAQ) will be hosting a NASDAQ Closing Bell ceremony to commemorate Oracle OpenWorld 2006 and Oracle's 20th Listing Anniversary as a public company. Oracle OpenWorld is an annual forum held in San Francisco, California for business and technology leaders. It is the world's largest event dedicated to helping enterprises understand the power of information.
The NASDAQ Closing Bell ceremony will occur from San Francisco at 12:30 p.m. P.T. (3:30 p.m. E.T.) in the Moscone Center on October 25th. The ceremony will be witnessed by the 41,000 OpenWorld attendees and will be fed to television networks throughout the U.S. and around the globe. It will be simultaneously showcased live on NASDAQ's Times Square Tower, bringing the OpenWorld event from San Francisco to New York. Immediately following the NASDAQ Closing Bell ceremony Larry Ellison will deliver his keynote address.

The NASDAQ Remote Closing Bell ceremony is a recreation of the daily Closing Bell that takes place in the NASDAQ studio. Both the Opening and Closing Bell ceremonies are broadcast live on NASDAQ's Times Square Tower in the heart of NY. NASDAQ will re-create the MarketSite Closing Bell ceremony at OpenWorld by displaying the electronic podium and traditionally signing into the market at the event. The Opening and Closing Bell events are symbolic ceremonies that represent the open and/or close of the NASDAQ trading day, which brings together investors and market participants from around the world to trade electronically.
NASDAQ by design is a decentralized electronic market that can be opened anywhere. On average, the NASDAQ processes approximately 20,000 stock market transactions per second and nearly 12 million trades per day.
