NEC Selects Emulex LightPulse 4Gb/s HBAs for Express5800/120Bb-6 Blade Server

Emulex LPe1105-N HBA Maximizes Storage Reliability for Next-Generation Enterprise IT Platform

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 25, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced that NEC has qualified the Emulex LightPulse(r) 4Gb/s LPe1105-N dual-channel HBA to connect NEC Express5800/120Bb-6 servers to storage infrastructures driven by Linux and Windows. The 4Gb/s LPe1105-N HBA complements the Emulex PCI Express and PCI-X 4Gb/s offerings from NEC and enables users to optimize connectivity performance and maximize storage reliability for NEC's most innovative blade server.

Like all Emulex HBAs, the LightPulse LPe1105-N HBA is equipped with a unique firmware-based architecture featuring seamless backward compatibility and independent performance upgrades to avoid costly hardware changes and ensure long-term investment protection. These capabilities provide end users with critical time and cost savings, especially when leveraged in large-scale enterprise environments with hundreds of SAN-attached servers, multiple operating systems or numerous data centers.

"NEC endorses the latest server and storage solutions leveraging 4Gb/s performance capabilities, which is validated by our recent deployment of Emulex's HBAs for our Express5800/120Bb-6 servers," said Kimihiko Fukuda, General Manager of Client and Server Division, NEC. "The integration of Emulex's LightPulse HBA, whose core technology is scalable and dependable, supports our vision of next-generation enterprise and REAL IT platforms."

Express5800/120Bb-6 is a next-generation enterprise platform integrating servers, networks and storage. As a platform product, the blade server is suitable for integrated storage and servers such as database servers, Web servers and application servers. Systems which use multiple HBA ports have the capability to support 40 percent more I/O traffic while using the same server resources.

"Together, Emulex and NEC have a long history of engineering leading-edge systems that provide the performance, scalability and reliability needed by enterprise and technical computing customers," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "This qualification affirms NEC's and Emulex's dedication to drive forward the market's best 4Gb/s SAN offerings."
