GE Advanced Materials Introduces CoatOSil Wetting Agents: High-Performance, Fluorine-Free Additives

CoatOSil Y-15790 and Y-15791 Wetting Agents Dramatically Expand the pH Range for Achievement of Critical Performance Attributes of Coatings and Inks

WILTON, Conn., Oct. 26, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- GE - Advanced Materials, Silicones today announced the introduction of CoatOSil(a) Y-15790 and Y-15791 wetting agents; they are surfactants that are not based on fluorine and they offer high performance flow, leveling, spreading and wetting capabilities over a wider pH range for coatings and ink formulators. The new wetting agents are highly effective at low loading levels and have broad applicability in architecture, printing, floor coatings and the coatings used in the automotive industry.

Excellent candidates for use in polyurethane, acrylic, epoxy and polyester resin-based systems, CoatOSil Y-15790 and Y-15791 wetting agents produce exceptional performance in water-based formulations with pH levels from 6 to as high as 11. This surpasses the earlier generation of high-performance CoatOSil wetting agents, which possess a much more limited effective pH range.

"CoatOSil Y-15790 and Y-15791 wetting agents give coatings and ink formulators a new level of versatility in their operations, while also helping them avoid materials that may have less favorable environmental impact," said Martin Wusik, global marketing manager, GE Advanced Materials. "These new CoatOSil products maintain their functionality in the alkaline pH ranges common to water-based formulations, as well as in solventborne coatings."

In tests of waterborne coatings, CoatOSil Y-15790 and Y-15791 deliver improved gloss and also help eliminate common printing defects (such as dewetting) that can occur when a coating is used on a difficult to wet or contaminated substrate, for instance.

CoatOSil Y-15790 wetting agent is most stable between pH of 6 to 11, while CoatOSil Y-15791 wetting agent's most effective pH range is from 6 to 8.
