Downtown Huntington Beach Gets Possessed by the Halloween Spirit

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct. 27, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ghouls and goblins are taking over downtown Huntington Beach on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., for a special Halloween celebration sponsored by the Downtown Huntington Beach Business Improvement District. Three blocks of Main St. will be closed to car traffic for a street fair complete with trick-or-treating, music, bounce houses, a petting zoo, a Ferris wheel and more. Contestants can bring their handiwork to a pumpkin carving contest, which will be judged beginning at 5:30 in front of the Longboard Restaurant and Pub at 217 Main Street. A costume contest will be judged at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at 200 Main St.

"The downtown merchants established this event years ago to give back to the community," said Steve Daniels, president of the Downtown Huntington Beach Business Improvement District. "It's a pleasure to be able to provide a safe, fun place where families can celebrate the holiday."

The celebration is now in its thirteenth year and continues to grow. In 2005, an estimated 8,000 -- 10,000 people flocked to Main St. for the fun, and that number is expected to increase in 2006.
