CLEARWATER, Fla., Oct. 27, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- With over 120 million users, independent moviemakers have followed their musical counterparts into the MySpace universe to promote their latest projects. For the creators of the new horror movie Hallows Point, creating a MySpace.com networking page wasn't enough to make a splash in cyberspace. Instead, the producers built a complex backdrop of 17 MySpace pages for their film, including nearly every character from the movie.
While some MySpace film pages do add a few character pages, executive producer Buddy Winsett believes that Hallows Point is the first movie to create such a detailed environment. "We created the MySpace pages as if the characters were real. The first visitors to these sites actually thought that. In the first weeks, we received lots of questions about where Hallows Point was located. People wanted to come to the fictional town thinking it was an historical landmark. We allowed these internet surfers to figure it out on their own and the self-discovery has turned them into loyal fans."
The marketing ploy is paying off. Hallows Point has added over 4,200 friends in the last three weeks. "We have fans commenting that they have spent hours reading about the Hallows Point characters," says writer/director Jeffrey Lynn Ward. "It's like a huge puzzle. Each piece whets the audience's appetite a little more without giving away what happens in the movie."
Hallows Point is about a group of high school seniors that bring back their dead biology teacher, who was also a serial killer. Hallows Point stars David Naughton (American Werewolf in London), Christa Campbell (2000 Maniacs, Day of the Dead), Jim Fitzpatrick (Elizabethtown, Blood Ranch) and Tom Nowicki (The Punisher, Remember the Titans). The movie is currently in post-production and a 2007 release is expected.
