Emulex and Brocade Provide SAN Infrastructure and Management Suite for HP's New EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit

HP Leverages Emulex's EZPilot Software and 4Gb/s HBAs and the Brocade 200E SilkWorm Switch for Microsoft 'Simple SAN Solution'

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 31, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Storage Networking World -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) and Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(r)) (Nasdaq:BRCD), today announced that the two companies are providing HBA and switch technologies to HP's easy-to-use EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit.

Emulex's LightPulse(r) LPe1150 4Gb/s HBAs and EZPilot software and the Brocade 200E SilkWorm Switch, will be integrated into the HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit. This combination offers small-and-midsize enterprise customers and affordable, high-performance and easily managed and deployed StorageWorks-based SAN. The three companies are demonstrating the HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit at this week's Storage Networking World conference in Orlando, Florida in both the HP and Emulex booths, P15 and G15, respectively.

Compatible with the Microsoft Simple SAN solution, the HP Storage Works EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit is designed to make HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit easier to deploy and install for entry-level and first-time SAN users. By incorporating the Emulex LPe1150 and the Brocade SilkWorm 200E Switch, the EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit will scale as the customer's needs expand, both in capacity and feature sets. This avoids costly hardware changes and ensures long-term investment protection.

Emulex's EZPilot(tm) software enables simplified SAN installation and deployment by navigating through wizards across HBAs, switches and storage arrays. EZPilot is the result of joint development between Emulex and Brocade to further simplify the deployment of SANs in the SMB and enterprise markets. It provides fast and simple storage provisioning for various hosts by leveraging the unique management capabilities built into Windows Server 2003 R2, including Virtual Disk Service (VDS) and Multipath I/O (MPIO) and meets the requirements of Microsoft's Simple SAN Program.

"The Microsoft Simple SAN Program provides customers the assurance that the HP EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit seamlessly operates in the Windows environment and meets ease-of-deployment metrics," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager of the Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased to team with HP, Emulex, and Brocade for this Simple SAN designation and delivery of easy-to-use SAN solutions to our mutual customers."

"The integration and extension of the SilkWorm 200E Switch, EZPilot, and LightPulse HBAs in the HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit reinforce the benefits of our technology and the depth of our relationship with HP," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade vice president of worldwide marketing. "We are pleased that our work with Emulex, HP, and Microsoft has resulted in bringing to market expanded levels of value, ease of use and ease of administration to storage area networking."

"Emulex and Brocade have leveraged a strategic partnership to deliver the industry's most advanced multi-vendor SAN installation and management tool," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Deploying SAN infrastructure solutions that support Microsoft's Simple SAN program requirements from market leaders like Emulex and Brocade will help provide customers with an affordable, integrated and easy-to-manage SAN solution."

"Working with Emulex and Brocade helps the HP StorageWorks EVA4000 SAN Starter Kit deliver best-in-class, low-cost storage with advanced connectivity and switching for organizations of all sizes," said Kyle Fitze, SAN marketing director, StorageWorks Division, HP.
