DETROIT, Nov. 8, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Palestinian Ambassador to the United States, Afif Safieh will visit Michigan November 13, 14 and 15, 2006. He will hold a press conference at 12 Noon on Monday, November 13 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn.

Ambassador Safieh will speak at several events in Detroit, Dearborn and Livonia about the future of peace in the Holy Land and the Middle East. According to Israel's Haaretz newspaper, "Afif Safieh is considered the most articulate Palestinian diplomat in Europe (the U.S.) and possibly the world."

In a recent statement regarding the current situation in Palestine, Ambassador Safieh stated, "I know the verdict of the international community is that a (Palestinian) state is missing the needs to be created. I believe that history is still undecided and I invite you in your capacities to help history make the right choice." Finally he said, "I have profound respect for the collective Palestinian hero which is the Palestinian people, for their steadfastness and capability to endure pain and suffering."

Ambassador Safieh is visiting Michigan at the invitation of the Palestine Education Fund, a consortium of three sponsoring organizations including Friends of Sabeel, the Ramallah Club of Detroit and Palestine Office-Michigan.

George Khoury, coordinator of the Palestine Education Fund said, "This is a historic event for the Arab American community in Michigan as the Palestinian Ambassador engages the mainstream community in the Detroit area. I consider him to be the most eloquent spokesman regarding the Palestinian issue."
